The Start of it All

Well, sort of. I guess the start of it all was the...well...you know...that produced the embryo in the first place. But this is the REAL nitty-gritty - where the rubber meets the road. Or rather, where the parents meet the hospital. We started childbirth classes at St. Mary's tonight. It's a 6-week course with one 2-hour session each Thursday night. Tonight we watched a video about birth, and talked about what happens when the woman goes into labour, complete with stuffed doll and a model of a pelvis. The nurse doing the class is very nice, and it's a small group, so that's nice. So...one down, five to go. The only down side? We have homework.

They gave us this book (maybe 100 pages?) that we have to read over the course of the six weeks. I think it's a rather sexist, exclusive title for a textbook that dads are expected to read, as well. It should be, "The Gift of Parenthood." But no one asked me. Obviously.
