The Beginning and the End

The sun was beautiful this morning shining through the trees in our front yard. The yellows and reds of the leaves really glowed bright in the morning sun. I couldn't capture it with the camera, but believe me - it was gorgeous!

Tonight was date night. Jason and I went to see "The Informant!" starring Matt Damon. It looked super funny in the commercials and I was hopeful that it would be worth cinema prices. It wasn't a bad movie, but it was definitely not one I'd watch again. Unlike other really bad movies ("Tropic Thunder" to name one), they didn't show you all the funny parts in the ads. There were a few parts of this movie that were really funny that weren't shown in the commercials. But the movie wasn't what I expected and I was a tad disappointed. It was still a fun date, though...Jason bought me nachos and a drink - we very rarely get snacks at the theatre. Thanks to Damie and Jared for watching Kayla for us!

Happy Birthday to Me!

Yes, I know, it's been a few weeks since my birthday. But Jason never actually got me anything (not sure how that happened, but we both kind of forgot about it)...until now! And this is what he bought me - a brand new, shrink-wrapped and everything copy of "Planet Earth." I am SO excited! This is going to be one of the first things Little Miss watches, I think. If you haven't seen this, you MUST. Check your local library for it. You'll like what you see so much you'll want your own. It happened to me.

The Final Pre-Baby Date

Tonight Jason and I went on our final pre-kids date. It was a lot of fun, though we didn't really do anything original. We went to a nice dinner, which we realized when we got there we hadn't done in quite a while, and then to a movie. The Italian restaurant is the only one in Walla Walla - Italian Bistro. Though their food isn't the greatest, and their wait staff deosn't necessarily dress the part, they do have amazing fettuccini alfredo. Tonight I tried their vegetable gnocchi and I was kind of disappointed. It wasn't bad, but next time I'm getting fettuccini alfredo. Jason got vegetarian lasagna (i.e. cheese lasagna). Then we got a creme brulee to share for dessert, and it was delicious. I voted for the chocolate gelato, but Jason wanted the creme brulee, and really - how many times in your life do you get to order creme brulee? (Okay, so maybe other people do it all the time. We don't.)

The movie we went to was the new Harry Potter film. I was a little disappointed, actually. Though it wasn't terrible, it certainly wasn't worth the ratings it has received thus far. I give it half a thumb up. The other HP movies were much better in my opinion. Or perhaps my taste in movies has changed in the last two years (or however long it's been since the last HP film was released). I also discovered that two and a half hours in a movie theatre chair at 39 weeks pregnant is not necessarily the best idea.

Traveling & Craftiness

Tonight we watched an oldie but goodie: "Around the World in 80 Days." No, this isn't the one with Jackie Chan. This one's good. :) If you haven't seen this family friendly, kid-clean movie, I highly recommend it. Make it your next choice for family night, or if you want to use it as an educational piece, feel free to study cultures, languages, music, people, and places - or even geography - while watching this film. Based on the novel by Jules Vern, a gentleman and his assistant embark on a journey around the world, from London to London, on a wager that they cannot make it in 80 days. I highly recommend this film...though you might want to skip the boring intro.

Earlier today I went to the store and found some cute white fabric with tiny white daisies on it. This I cut and sewed together to make "curtains" for the nursery. Here's a picture of the nursery as it is right now:

I'd love to replace that rocker with a glider and glider footrest...but we'll see. The rocker was my mom's when she nursed and rocked us girls, and I love it...but I think a glider would make nursing a bit easier, what with being bigger with padded arms...and having a place for my feet.

Oh, and by the way, HAPPY SUMMER! And, most importantly:

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY

to all the fabulous fathers out there, including my own, as well as my soon-to-be-Daddy hubby.

It's All Fun 'n Games

Tonight Jason and I did something we rarely do: We went to a party on a weeknight. Some friends of ours were hosing a mini-BBQ in their backyard, complete with croquet and an outdoor movie. Above are Jason, John, and Aric. One of the girls present, Krista, finally won, after chasing John's croquet ball around the yard for a while as "poison." I was the first to get through the wickets and complete the course, but in order to win, you have to be the last person standing. Krista got me after we'd gotten almost everyone else out.

For dinner we had burgers, chips, and lemonade, complete with no-bake cherry cheesecake and homemade jelly cookies. It was delicious! Even if I didn't get to eat as much of the cheesecake as I would've liked.

After we ate, we set up a projector, a great sound system (provided by Aric), and watched "Transformers" (since Jason and I hadn't seen it yet) projected wide-screen on the back of the yellow cinderblock building next door.

This is my favourite picture of the month (isn't he cute?):

Old-Fashioned Entertainment...And the 80s

Last night Jason and I started a puzzle, but we got started late due to laundry and lawn mowing (we drove back from Boise yesterday, you will recall), so we didn't quite finish it before I had to get to bed. So we finished it tonight...and it took two hours to do the last 3rd of the puzzle. See all that hay behind the cow? Yeah, that was NOT easy. That's just about all we did on the puzzle tonight. The puzzle is called "Clothesline Chaos."

Once we finished, Jason decided to pop in a movie. He'd just gotten a couple through Summit (an inter-library loan system in the Pacific Northwest). It's an 80s movie, because he recently went on a kick to watch some 80s flicks. The one we watched tonight was called "Sixteen Candles" and it was...well...dumb. But, as Jason pointed out, I would've liked it as a 16-year-old girl.
