Spring Sabbath Fun

Today Kayla went on her first real picnic. We took a picnic basket, a checkered tablecloth, sandwiches, apples and peanut butter, crackers and of course, food for Kayla. She got Cheerios and mashed banana with oat cereal (the celery stick was for her to chew on). I didn't notice until just now, but I caught Jason's apple slice in mid-air in this photo.

After lunch we tried out the backpack my parents found for us at a yard sale last summer. This was Kayla's first ride in it and she loved it! We'll have to do it again sometime when Mommy remembers Kayla's sun hat and sunscreen so we can actually go for a real walk.

Independence

Kayla is really doing well sitting up on her own. This morning she hung out in our bed while we got ready for church. She had fun grabbing at and trying to eat the covers.

This afternoon after church she waited for lunch with us by patiently playing with her toys on the sofa. She's also getting quite good at entertaining herself. And of course being adorable, as usual. But that doesn't take much effort.

A Drive in the Country

This morning Jason and I took Kayla to church for the second time. She didn't do as well as the first time, so we missed most of the sermon while walking and rocking her in the lobby. She did eventually fall asleep and was of course a little angel while people were coming out of the sanctuary after church. "What a doll!" and "Is she always this mellow?" were some of the comments we received. Of course, even when she's crying, everyone tells us how beautiful she is, and though we agree, it's not really what we're thinking while she's crying for no reason.

After church, we decided we wanted to get out of the house and Jason suggested going for a drive. So we packed a picnic lunch and loaded up the car. We drove west on the back roads and ended up in Touchet, where we ate lunch at a covered picnic area next to the school (yes, "the" school). This was some of the scenery we saw while out on our Sabbath afternoon drive. I must say this view is much more pleasant than the smell we encountered here...

It's About Time

Jason and I took a brief hiatus from playing games during May. We'd been playing them a lot, and we got a little tired of them. Tonight, separate of each other, we decided we should start up again. So we pulled out "Agricola," a super fun, super spendy game that we splurged on this winter after hunting for it in several stores (we finally found it in a tiny game store in Boise). It's been so long since we used the strategic part of our brains that we both found ourselves making stupid mistakes throughout the game. "Argh!" was a common exclamation.

In this game, you try to grow your family and grow your farm, including fields, pastures, stables, animals, and rooms in your house. You can build stoves/ovens, dig a well, turn your field's harvest or animals into food, and more. With two people who know how to play it generally takes 2 hours to play. Great for a Sabbath evening!

Just for the record, I beat Jason 38-27. Perhaps we should take a break from games more often!
