Inside & Out

This was my office today. It was a ton more comfortable than my regular office, I have to admit. Our primary sitter was sick (as was her son) and our backup sitter is out of town for the week. So I worked from home today, and got a surprising amount done. Kayla entertained herself VERY well; she sat on the blanket there and played alone for an hour at a time. She has discovered a new game: Pull everything out of the toy basket, play with it, and then roll/crawl around for a while until it gets boring, then crawl over to Mom and be picked up. We played this game several times today, and I'll admit I found it to be a fun game.

In other news...remember the bulbs I planted after my parents ripped out my mostly dead rose bushes for me? Well, they're almost all in full bloom now and I'm loving the vibrant colours around my front porch.

Heeellllp Meeeee!!!

Today was pretty much hell. It wasn't anyone's fault, it just worked out that way. As I was walking out the door this morning, my sitter called and said she was sick and couldn't watch Kayla. It being last-minute, I had no options but to take her to work with me. At first I figured this was a good thing; it would save us some money and also some milk, since we wouldn't be using bottles and I could pump during the day, too. To spare you the details, it was a really bad day during which I felt like screaming and napping, alternatively. It is nearly impossible to get ANYTHING done with a baby around, and she was sick to boot, so she didn't want to play by herself; she wanted Mommy to hold her. So with two flailing hands and arms in front of me, I attempted to type with one hand and get emails sent, stories written and tasks completed. Needless to say I will NOT be doing that again. I've definitely learned the benefits to have a babysitter. The fun part of the day came when Daddy came to eat lunch with us. He held Kayla and played with her so Mommy could have a break. It was lovely. And at that point during the day, I was able to laugh and enjoy my daughter. Here she is reaching for the camera after Daddy put her hood up. She was trying to get it off her head and it was hilarious, but I couldn't get that part on camera.

Take-Your-Kid-to-Work Day

This afternoon Kayla ended up spending a couple of hours in the office with me. I had her on my lap for a while, during which time she attempted to help me get some things done. She even typed a letter to Daddy while I did other things at my desk. (It was complete with formatting, including underlining, indentation and bold. Don't ask me how...) Finally, I had to put her down in order to finish some things. She did very well entertaining herself with the random items I found for her to play with. Mostly she just rolled around on the floor, as you can see below.

White Elephant

Oh yeah, Chris and his golden locks of...mullet. LOL! This is my coworker Chris at our office post-Christmas and New Year's party tonight. After a soup and bread dinner we played Pictionary and then did a white elephant gift exchange. This mullet wig showed up last year at our Christmas party, and the person who got it brought it back this year. It was passed around about four times tonight - everyone loves it. And just in case you don't know Chris - he sports a cue ball head. So this mullet is perhaps more funny on him than anyone else in the office. Though it looked pretty ridiculous on everyone who tried it. I'm sure it will be back next year. Here's what Jason ended up with:

And yes - those are milk chocolate miniature high heels. So awesome. Just about too awesome to eat. And just super manly, don't'cha think?
